Quality Chiropractic Care for Senior Citizens

Our Senior Citizen Care

At Mills Chiropractic, we provide chiropractic care for all ages. According to a new study conducted by the prestigious Rand Corp, senior citizens who receive chiropractic care report better overall health, fewer symptomatic chronic conditions, fewer days in hospitals and nursing homes, and more mobility than non-chiropractic patients.

According to the study, 87% of chiropractic patients (75 years old) described their health status as good to excellent, compared to 67% (75 years old) of non-chiropractic patients, which shows a significant 19% difference. Furthermore, the chiropractic patients also were less likely to use prescription drugs and more likely to exercise regularly and participate in communities activities.

This is wonderful news for the aging population. The landmark study was funded by the Foundation for Chiropractic Education and Research (FCER), the W.K. Kellogg Foundation, and the Peer Counseling Center in Santa Monica, CA.

Safe Therapy for an Aging Spine

Chiropractic care is extremely important for the aging and elderly adults due to the fact that dramatic changes can occur in and around the spine and musculoskeletal system with increasing age. As a human ages, the spinal discs, facet joints, ligaments, muscles, and other spinal tissues become weaker, less hydrated, more brittle, and less capable of withstanding the normal stress and wear and tear that life provides. As a result, spinal pain from spinal degeneration (arthritis) becomes more prominent, tissue injury from relatively benign events occurs, and the time to heal from injuries increases.

Chiropractic techniques introduce a safe and gentle way to combat the effects of an aging spine and the many abnormalities that aging may present, in order to provide a strategically effective proven method of relief and rehabilitation. Through the use of gentle adjustive and mobilization techniques, multiple therapies, and outlined programs of stretching and exercise programs, spinal pain is reduced, spinal stresses are minimized, flexibility and mobility are maximized, and degeneration is brought to near halt.
